How to Install Tesla Seat Covers: A Step-by-Step Guide

Installing Tesla seat covers correctly takes a little more care than putting on a universal cover. A full-cover custom-fit seat cover is designed to follow the original seat structure, so the final fit depends on how carefully the material is positioned, tucked, and secured.

This guide walks through the installation of CustomCover Tesla seat covers, including the front seats, rear seats, headrests, and center armrest. The same basic principles apply throughout: align the cover first, tuck the material into the correct gaps, secure the straps, and make final adjustments before moving to the next section.

Important: Tesla seat configurations can vary by model and year. Always confirm the correct fitment and follow the installation instructions supplied with your specific CustomCover seat cover set. When working around seat wiring or electrical connectors, avoid pulling, pinching, or covering the wiring. Tesla's own service documentation also emphasizes careful handling of seat wiring and connectors during seat work.

Installation Step

Before Installing Tesla Seat Covers

Before starting, lay out the covers and identify each piece. Keeping the covers organized makes the installation considerably easier, especially for the rear seat components.

Attach the Retaining Hooks

Before installing the covers, attach the metal retaining hooks to the elastic straps on the back of the covers.

Install the hooks in sequence as shown in the installation materials. There are 12 hooks in total.

These hooks help secure the covers and reduce movement after installation.

Step 1: Install the Front Seat Cushion Covers

Remove the panel underneath the front seat if necessary. Position the CustomCover front seat cushion cover over the factory seat and align the seams and edges. Tuck the cover material through the gap between the seat cushion and seatback using the installation tool, then route the straps underneath the seat.

Tuck the side sections into the plastic trim and adjust the cover until it follows the original seat contours. Route the rear elastic straps through the seat gap, attach the hooks and clips, and tighten the straps evenly. Make sure the straps are clear of wiring and moving seat components.

Step 2: Install the Front Seatback Covers

Open the side zipper and pull the seatback cover over the factory seatback. Adjust the top, sides, and lower sections so the cover is evenly positioned.

Use the installation tool to tuck the lower material through the seat gap. Insert the removed panel if required, then close the zipper. Pull and tighten the lower fabric, secure the Velcro, and attach the bottom retaining hook. Check the overall fit and make any final adjustments.

Step 3: Install the Front Center Console Cover

Confirm that the cover is labeled for the front center console. Place it over the factory console and align the seams, edges, and openings with the original shape.

Make sure the cover is centered and sits smoothly without unnecessary wrinkles or loose material.

Step 4: Install the Rear Seat Cushion and Seatback Covers

Lift the rear seat cushion carefully and disconnect the wiring connector by pressing the release button. Do not pull on the wiring itself.

Install the rear seat cushion cover and align it with the factory seat. Tuck the sides into the retaining areas, then pull out and secure the straps and hooks evenly.

For the rear seatbacks, install the headrest covers and remove the headrests as required. Open the seatback zipper, route the seat belt through the cover, and slide the cover over the seatback. Tuck the fabric around the headrest openings and through the lower seat gap.

Make sure the child-seat anchors remain completely accessible. Pull and tighten the fabric, secure the Velcro, close the zipper, and reinstall the headrests securely. Keep all wiring clear and free from being pinched or covered.

Step 5: Install the Rear Center Armrest and Cupholder Cover

Install the headrest cover and release the headrest if required. Check the front and rear orientation of the armrest cover, open the zipper, and slide the cover over the armrest.

Tuck the outer material underneath the armrest and tighten the fabric. Secure the Velcro, then position the lower cover and insert the elastic straps into the underside of the armrest. Repeat the process on the opposite side.

Check that the cover is centered and all openings are correctly aligned. Fold down the center seatback and tuck any excess material into the lower gap. Reinstall the armrest and secure the center seatback cover.

Step 6: Final Check

Carefully inspect all installed seat covers and make sure the seams, edges, and openings are properly aligned.

Check that all straps, clips, hooks, Velcro, and zippers are securely fastened. Make sure the seat covers do not interfere with seat movement, seat belts, headrests, wiring, or child-seat anchors.

Confirm that the front and rear seats can move normally and that all safety-related components remain fully accessible before using the vehicle.
